Professor Derek Connolly BSc[Hons] MB ChB[Edin] PhD[Cantab] DSc[Hon]
FRCP FRCPE FESC is a very experienced Consultant Cardiologist. His private
practice is solely at the Priory Hospital in Birmingham where he has developed a
large patient base over the last 25 years. He prides himself on being
accessible and “user friendly’.
He consults on all aspects of Cardiology but is world recognised in
preventive Cardiology and the diagnosis and treatment of Coronary disease and
other cardiac conditions. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology
and the Royal Colleges of Physicians in London and in Edinburgh. He lectures internationally and holds honorary academic positions at both Aston University and at the Institute ofCardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham, UK.
He has been on the National Council of the UK Primary Care Cardiovascular Society since 2019 and is a trustee of the Atrial Fibrillation Association. He trained in Edinburgh,
Cambridge, London and San Diego where he was a Carnegie Scholar. He has a first
class degree in Pharmacology from the University of Edinburgh where he was the
Brunton medallist and the Keasbey Bursary holder. His BHF funded PhD in molecular
cardiology is from the University of Cambridge. He is the Chief or Primary
Investigator of multiple large trials in Cardiovascular medicine. In
2023 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Aston
University for his contributions to medical science where in December 2024 was
appointed as the Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow in Health Research.
Professor Connolly’s NHS practice is at the new superhospital, the
Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and at Birmingham City Hospital in Birmingham
UK.
