Dr Derek Connolly is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Birmingham City Hospital (UK) and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham.

His main clinical and research interest is the detection and treatment of coronary heart disease.

He was appointed to his current role in Birmingham in 2000 and has been integral to the early development of both primary angioplasty and cardiac CT programs. He was UK Chief Investigator for the Fourier and Ebbinghaus Trials in cholesterol reduction and has been an investigator in over 30 large landmark trials in the field of cardiovascular disease research.

Dr Connolly is a sought after speaker and has presented to conferences in over 50 cities worldwide. He is a Senior Academy Teacher at the University of Birmingham Medical School.

He was recently co-opted to the committee of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society and has a large role in the education of Primary Care physicians.

He is keen to provide the latest evidence based, state of the art tests and treatments that he would want for his family and friends.
