Dr. Fishman has been a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist since 2001. He investigates and treats all forms of inflammatory and degenerative arthritis, as well as back pain, osteoporosis, connective tissue disease and soft-tissue rheumatism, such as fibromyalgia (which is one of his clinical interests). He has particular experience in the field of Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology.
As well as being a full-time Consultant at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, he is also the Clinical Director for Rheumatology, leading the adult rheumatology service and setting up the paediatric rheumatology service. Additional positions held have included Secretary of the East Anglian Rheumatology Society, Eastern Regional representative on the Executive Committee of the British Society for Rheumatology and Eastern Regional Speciality Adviser for the Royal College of Physicians.
It is also of note that Dr. Fishman can treat all forms of degenerative and inflammatory arthritis with joint, tendon and soft tissue injections to patients of all ages and is trained in the use of diagnostic ultrasound.

Qualifications
Dr Fishman graduated as MB BS from St Mary's Hospital Medical School (now part of Imperial College) in 1988, having also taken an intercalated BSc in Neuroanatomy during his medical studies. He obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1991 and was elected as a Fellow of the College in 2006. In 1999, he was awarded a PhD from the University of London for Molecular Pathology research related to Juvenile Arthritis.

I felt uncomfortable and got the impression I had arrived for my appointment at the end of a 'bad day'. The final analysis of my worsening fibromyalgia pain seemed to be directed at my weight. Went away quite upset with the outcome and nothing positive to take with me.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you were left with this impression, which was never my intention. I am obviously unable to discuss in detail the contents of our consultation on this forum, but I always strive to have a holistic approach to the management of fibromyalgia, which is a difficult condition to live with and to treat. Aiming to be as healthy as possible is essential and this was the message I was trying to get across doing our mid-afternoon consultation.

Firstly, the consultation took place on time. Dr Fishman listened carefully to my description of my symptoms and carried out a thorough examination. He set out clearly his initial thoughts in language and in terms appropriate to an explanation for a person with limited medical knowledge. He suggested a course of further investigations and some steps I could take to alleviate some of the symptoms. I was very happy with the whole consultation and there were no obvious areas where it could have been improved.

My consultation with Dr Fishman was excellent. He was immensely helpful performing a range of tests on me alongside explaining the likely cause of my pain and also the testing/remedies available to me. I would have no hesitation returning to see him, should the need arise. I highly recommend him.

He has contributed widely to the specialty since he took up his Consultant post. He is one of the few Rheumatologists with experience in the care of children and teenagers with arthritis problems.
