Dr Chris Willars graduated from University College London Medical School in 1998. He undertook training in General Medicine and subsequently Anaesthesia with the South-Eastern School of Anaesthesia (London deanery). Dr Willars is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, and enjoys dual specialist accreditation. He was appointed as a Consultant to work in Intensive Care Medicine at King's College Hospital, London in 2010; furthermore, he was made Clinical Lead for the Liver Intensive Care Unit there in 2016. Additionally, Dr Willars is a member of King's College Hospital ECMO team - which manages severe cardiac and respiratory failure cases - using extracorporeal life support systems. He has been privileged to work with international leaders throughout his career thus far, and continues to do so across all intensive care specialities on occasions; this ensures continued exposure to broad pathophysiology principles for him.
