About Dr Ashish Awasthi

Dr Ashish Kumar Awasthi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with over 19 years of  experience in gastroenterology as a Consultant. He has particular expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and has performed several thousand endoscopic procedures during his career.

His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), clinical nutrition, coeliac disease, acid reflux and peptic ulcer disease. Dr Awasthi also has an interest in liver disease, excluding chronic viral hepatitis. His endoscopic practice includes procedures such as colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and gastroscopy.

Dr Awasthi qualified in medicine from Allahabad University in 1994. He holds an MD and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He also holds a CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine.

Education and research form further areas of his professional activity. Dr Awasthi teaches undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and was an examiner for MRCP PACES for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He has also been involved in clinical trials, predominantly concerning inflammatory bowel disease, and has published research in gastroenterology.

His professional memberships include the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, British Society of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.
