Mr. Chris Kellett is a Consultant Neurological and Complex Spinal Surgeon with extensive experience in microsurgical, endoscopic, and minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques. His background in neurosurgical training has provided him with a strong foundation in spinal surgery, a field in which he developed a deep interest early in his career. Over the course of 15 years, Mr. Kellett has honed his expertise in all aspects of spinal surgery. His passion for the biomechanics of the spine and related sports injuries stems from his experience as a county cricket player, where he played as an opening fast bowler during his teens.
Mr. Kellett’s special interests include microscopic and endoscopic minimally invasive spinal surgery (MIS), computer navigated spinal surgery, day-case spinal fusion, and performing spinal surgeries under local/spinal anaesthesia. His techniques are designed to reduce operative and anaesthetic times while minimising tissue trauma, which helps to reduce the risk of infection, postoperative pain, and the length of hospital stays. Notably, Mr. Kellett is the only surgeon in Leeds to have performed cervical spine surgery under local anaesthetic and achieved successful day-case MIS lumbar fusion procedures.
Mr. Kellett is fellowship-trained in Neurological and Complex Spinal Surgery, having completed his training under some of the most renowned names in the field at prestigious centres in the UK. These include The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, The Atkinson Morley Department of Neurosurgery, The Hugh Cairns Neurosurgical Department, The Royal London Hospital, King’s College London, and Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. His broad experience across these top centres has given him exposure to a wide range of spinal pathologies and various surgical approaches to treat them.
He has published extensively in his areas of expertise, particularly on Cervical Myelopathy and Cauda Equina Syndrome, and is actively involved in clinical research on spinal cord injury. Mr. Kellett was also the surgeon responsible for the care of professional rugby player Mose Masoe following his spinal injury.
