Dr Benjamin Perakath

Dr Benjamin Perakath is an experienced Consultant General Surgeon with a dedicated focus on laparoscopic and colorectal procedures. With a patient-centred approach to clinical care, he provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of abdominal and gastrointestinal conditions. Dr Perakath is committed to delivering surgical care of the highest quality, utilising minimally invasive techniques whenever appropriate to promote optimal patient outcomes and smoother recoveries.

Dr Perakath completed his foundational medical education, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1982. He pursued advanced postgraduate surgical training, earning his Master of Surgery (MS) in General Surgery in 1988, followed by Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS(G)) in 1994. Alongside his extensive clinical practice, Dr Perakath has a distinguished academic background, having previously held an appointment as a Professor of Surgery. He maintains active professional membership with the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.

Dr Perakath's clinical expertise encompasses both benign and malignant conditions of the colon, rectum, and anus. His primary clinical interests include bowel cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease, and functional bowel disorders including constipation and incontinence. He regularly performs laparoscopic colorectal procedures, right hemicolectomies, anterior resections, and transanal endoscopic microsurgery. In addition, Dr Perakath manages anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulae, and pruritus ani, employing specialised interventions including lateral anal sphincterotomy and procedures for prolapse and haemorrhoids. He also maintains a strong professional commitment to service provision and quality improvement in healthcare.
