About Mr Anant Patel
Mr Anant Patel is a fellowship-trained Consultant ENT, Head & Neck, Robotic and Thyroid Surgeon, and the Clinical Director of Operating Theatres at Lister Hospital. He is also a Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy at the University of Cambridge. His specialist expertise includes the surgical management of head and neck cancer, thyroid and parathyroid disease, and the use of advanced robotic techniques.
After being awarded First Class Honours at the University of Cambridge, Mr Patel studied medicine at King’s College London, graduating with distinction. He subsequently completed his core surgical training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, followed by specialist ENT training across the East of England. Alongside his clinical training, he also completed a Master’s in Management Studies at the Cambridge Judge Business School, graduating with First Class Honours.
Mr Patel went on to undertake highly competitive fellowships in endocrine surgery at Lister Hospital and advanced head and neck oncology surgery at the internationally renowned Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Australia. These subspecialty fellowships allowed him to refine his expertise in complex head and neck cancer procedures, advanced thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and minimally invasive and robotic techniques.
Appointed as a Consultant at Lister Hospital in 2023, he is Vice-Chair of the Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire Head & Neck and Thyroid Cancer Multidisciplinary Boards, where he works closely with a wide range of specialists to deliver comprehensive, patient-centred care. In his role as Clinical Director of Operating Theatres, he leads service improvement and innovation, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and surgical outcomes.

I had a thorough clinic appointment and Mr Patel answered all my questions. He is very professional and has a lovely manner. My sinus surgery went really well, recovery was fairly quick, and I’m delighted with the outcome.
Mr. Patel was excellent. I had a viral infection and didn’t rest my voice during the acute phase. My voice got hoarse and wouldn’t return to normal. I saw Mr. Patel and he explained the plan to me and what to expect. He followed me up closely until my voice recovered completely.
Mr Patel was very caring and put me at ease immediately. After investigations I needed an operation which was explained in detail. Mr Patel visited me before and after my surgery which was very reassuring. I had a follow up appointment which was very positive and am recovering well.
I saw Mr Patel for a thyroid tumour that required removing half my thyroid. He was kind and reassuring, and the surgery went smoothly with no issues. He gave me all the information I needed, avoided speaking in ‘jargon’ and was so reassuring. I would recommend him.
I was seen and offered a tonsillectomy within a week. All went very well and I would recommend.
I had a large lipoma removed from my neck by Mr Patel. I can’t fault his care, I’m very pleased with everything.
