About Mr Alexander Steshenko

Alexander Steshenko is an experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, known for his compassionate, patient-centred approach and his commitment to ensuring every patient feels listened to, respected and actively involved in decision-making. He is widely regarded for his calm, attentive manner and for providing care with empathy, integrity and professionalism.

Mr Steshenko graduated in medicine from the Ukrainian Medical and Dental Academy in Poltava in 2000 and moved to the UK later that year. Since then, he has continuously developed his clinical expertise through comprehensive postgraduate training in obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive medicine. He completed his foundation training in the West Midlands and Scotland before entering specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in London, where he trained at several centres of excellence including Princess Royal University Hospital, King’s College Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Reproduction and Development from the University of Bristol, a Postgraduate Award in Assisted Reproductive Technologies from the University of Warwick, and a Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. During his specialty training, he completed Advanced Training Skills Modules in subfertility and reproductive health, benign gynaecological surgery, hysteroscopy and labour ward practice. He is fully BSCCP-accredited in colposcopy and is highly skilled in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures.

Following completion of his specialist training, Mr Steshenko was appointed Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Labour Ward Lead at Princess Royal University Hospital, part of King’s College Hospital NHS Trust. In this role, he provides comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological care while overseeing labour ward safety, clinical standards and service delivery. He has a particular clinical interest in early pregnancy care, gynaecological, subfertility, reproductive health and gynaecological ultrasound.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Steshenko is actively involved in research and currently leads national research studies within his maternity department. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at national and international conferences. His research interests span obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive medicine, with a strong focus on improving maternal and perinatal outcomes, labour ward safety, induction of labour, and the prevention and management of postpartum haemorrhage.

Was professional. Only slight critique is I feel like my pain was not taken as seriously until I experienced pain during the examination but Dr was sympathetic when I experienced pain and provided reassurance

Development of endometrial cancer after long-term usage of the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system

Uterine cancer is rare in women using Mirena IUS. However, when irregular vaginal bleeding is detected in a Mirena IUS user, it should not be assumed that uterine cancer is impossible, and clinicians should be vigilant and aware of cases similar to this one.
