About Mr Alex Chowdhury

Mr Alex Chowdhury is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Basingstoke and Winchester, specialising in Shoulder and Elbow surgery. He graduated from King’s College London in 2013 with distinctions in Clinical Medicine and Clinical Sciences, and subsequently completed an MSc in Surgical Innovation at Imperial College London.

He undertook his Orthopaedic Specialty Training in the Wessex Deanery, including an in-training fellowship in Upper Limb Surgery at Hampshire Hospitals. He further advanced his expertise through internationally recognised fellowships in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the University of Otago, Christchurch, and Waikato Hospital in New Zealand.

Mr Chowdhury has a strong academic profile, with research widely published in peer-reviewed journals and presentations delivered at national and international conferences. He is actively involved in research on clavicle fractures, arthroscopy and arthroplasty, collaborating with international research teams. He is also committed to medical education, having lectured at the University of Otago and contributed as an editor for the UKITE examinations.

His clinical interests include complex upper limb trauma, advanced arthroscopic (keyhole) procedures and joint replacement surgery for the shoulder and elbow. He performs arthroscopic shoulder surgery for conditions such as rotator cuff tears, instability, frozen shoulder and impingement, including advanced techniques such as cuff augmentation and superior capsular reconstruction. He also undertakes open shoulder surgery, including shoulder replacement, instability procedures and acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injury management, as well as open and arthroscopic elbow surgery for instability, arthritis and loose bodies.
