Dr Aaron Wetten

Dr Aaron Wetten is a Consultant Hepatologist and Consultant Gastroenterologist specialising in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of complex liver disorders and gastrointestinal conditions. Serving as a Head of Department in liver medicine, he provides experienced clinical leadership and guides community health initiatives focused on the early detection and prevention of liver disease. Dr Wetten is dedicated to offering reassuring, patient-centred care that blends rigorous evidence-based medicine with modern clinical innovation.

Dr Wetten earned his medical degree from Newcastle University in 2010. He subsequently completed his specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology, which included two years as a Clinical Research Fellow focusing on autoimmune liver conditions, followed by a post-CCT fellowship. In 2024, he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) for his research investigating the pathophysiology of symptoms in primary biliary cholangitis. Dr Wetten also holds a degree in Computer Science and Cybernetics, providing him with a unique interdisciplinary foundation to integrate modern technology into clinical practice and streamline healthcare delivery.

Dr Wetten maintains active clinical interests in autoimmune liver diseases, particularly primary biliary cholangitis, alongside general liver health screening, biliary tree disorders, and digital health innovations. He routinely leads multidisciplinary team reviews to coordinate tailored care plans for patients with intricate medical needs.
