They offer Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), a non-invasive and medication-free treatment for depression and anxiety. rTMS uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific brain regions associated with mood control and depression, providing an effective and well-tolerated solution with minimal side effects.

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation has shown particular effectiveness in treating depression, including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This technology has been developed for over 30 years and has been recognised by the FDA in the United States as a treatment for anxiety and depression since 2008, it is also approved by NICE in England. Tranquil TMS is proud to be the first centre in the North-West to offer this treatment.

During the initial assessment, the consultant will gather your full medical history to determine if rTMS is a suitable treatment for you. They will also discuss the treatment process, including the duration of each session and the recommended number of treatments. At Tranquil TMS, they believe in taking the time to understand their patients, considering it crucial in assisting them on their journey to recovery.

The treatment session itself requires no preparation beforehand. Patients will be comfortably seated in a reclining chair, and a magnetic plate will be positioned above their head to target the desired brain area. The machine will then be activated, delivering magnetic pulses. Throughout the 20-30 minute treatment, patients remain awake, alert, and pain-free. Although it may sound scientific or intimidating, the treatment is painless and well-received by patients.

After an rTMS session, there is no recovery period, and patients can immediately resume their daily activities. Some individuals may experience mild scalp irritation or tingling after the first session, but these effects typically diminish with subsequent visits.
