Hannah (if I have her name right) was excellent. Very professional and explained everything clearly.

Will was really informative and walked me through everything really well. He had excellent social skills and made me feel comfortable immediately. Overall it was a real pleasure to take the assessment.

The assessor was lovely and encouraging. I do feel the format is unnecessarily stressful and the machines appear archaic. There is always a problem getting the heart rate monitor to link. The face mask tastes of public swimming pool and hinders breathing. On the other hand the data gained is invaluable.

As a very fit 65 year old who had experienced an ‘out of the blue’ heart issue then undergone major surgery, recovery was a concern. Once I had got through the first few weeks I moved onto a 12 week programme largely conducted on Zoom with the exception of a couple of ‘in-person’ assessments at Bath University. I freely admit to having been a bit sceptical to start with but 12 weeks down the line and back to close to my pre-op fitness, I cannot speak highly enough of the programme and especially the people. My front line contact was with my cardiac physio Joe Channer and then Angela Hartley for more medical-related matters; both were quite outstanding, Angela dealing with queries regarding my medications and HR and Joe taking me from cautious stretches and lifting 4kg at 90bpm to interval-training at close to maximum HR and decent weight-training. The physio outcome was clearly measurable but I cannot underestimate the vital role that Angela and Joe played in helping me psychologically too; it is a key part of recovery. I should also acknowledge an excellent cameo physio stand-in from Bethan and my fellow ‘athletes’ on Angela’s weekly Zoom call who were a great source of motivation early on then experiential information.

I simply would not be in the amazing physical and psychological condition that I am now, without my TeamSmith coach Izzy, Experience manager Kate and head cardio nurse Angela. My team has been encouraging, attentive, informative and supportive - but importantly, we’ve had FUN from day one. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my new life.
