Dr Vanessa Rees

Dr Vanessa Rees is an Australian-trained Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist who provides a caring, patient-centred approach to the management of all gastrointestinal and liver conditions. She is dedicated to delivering evidence-based care, ensuring that patients are fully informed and comfortable throughout their medical journey. Dr Rees is particularly passionate about serving the community where she grew up, offering comprehensive consultations for a wide range of digestive symptoms, including reflux, difficulty swallowing, nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, and altered bowel habits.

Dr Rees completed her Bachelor of Medical Science before earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Wollongong, qualifying in 2011. She undertook her foundation medical training in the Illawarra region and completed her advanced specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In 2020, she was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Dr Rees is an active member of several professional organisations, including the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Sydney Gut Club, and the Sydney Liver Group. She is also certified by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy for both gastroscopy and colonoscopy, and she maintains her recertification in adult colonoscopy.

In her clinical practice, Dr Rees manages a diverse spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders, with special interests in inflammatory bowel disease, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and hepatology, including viral hepatitis. She performs high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and capsule endoscopy (Pillcam). Additionally, she provides specialised treatments including haemorrhoid rubber band ligation and iron infusions. Dr Rees also works closely with patients to assess family history and lifestyle factors, helping them navigate bowel cancer screening options and develop tailored management plans.
