Dr Jason Maani is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon practising at St George Private Hospital and across South West Sydney. He specialises in upper gastrointestinal surgery, bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr Maani completed his medical degree at University of Auckland before undertaking specialist training in General Surgery through leading Australian institutions, including Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He then completed subspecialty training in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, followed by advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery at St George Hospital.
His practice focuses on the surgical management of upper gastrointestinal disorders and obesity, with particular expertise in minimally invasive and metabolic surgery. Dr Maani is recognised for his commitment to patient-centred care and high surgical standards. He has been awarded the designation of Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation, a distinction recognising excellence in patient safety, clinical outcomes, and quality of care.
Dr Maani is an active member of Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association and Australia and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society. He also contributes regularly to the Bariatric Surgery Registry, supporting ongoing research, quality improvement, and best practice in bariatric surgery.
