About Dr Daniel Chan

Dr Daniel Chan is a specialist Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with expertise in therapeutic endoscopy, including Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). He is a consultant surgeon at St George Hospital and St George Private Hospital.

Born and educated in Sydney, Dr Chan obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from University of New South Wales in 2011. He completed his internship, residency, and surgical training at St George Hospital before earning a Master of Public Health from University of Queensland in 2017. In 2019, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery through the Sydney Southern surgical training network.

Following specialist qualification, Dr Chan undertook extensive post-fellowship subspecialty training in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, and Interventional Endoscopy in both Australia and internationally. His advanced clinical fellowships included appointments at Prince of Wales Hospital and Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as St George Hospital in Sydney. Through the prestigious Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association post-fellowship training programme, he further specialised at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital.

Dr Chan has a strong academic profile and is actively involved in research and medical education. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications covering Upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, surgical oncology, and therapeutic endoscopy. In 2021, he was awarded Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) through the University of New South Wales, where he contributes to teaching and supervises Bachelor of Science (Medicine) Honours students.

Alongside his civilian surgical practice, Dr Chan serves as a surgeon in the Australian Defence Force. His military service has included providing medical and surgical support in a range of operational environments.
