Dr Thomas Suhardja

Dr Thomas Surya Suhardja is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Monash Health. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Melbourne and completed a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney. He completed his Royal Australasian College of Surgeons General Surgery training at Monash Health. Dr Suhardja prioritises patient-centred care and a holistic approach in his practice.

Dr Suhardja was honoured with the Monash Health Emerging Researcher Fellowship and Medtronic Research Grant for his ground-breaking research into the treatment of haemorrhoids and complex anal fistula. He then went on to be successfully selected for the post-fellowship advanced training with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia & New Zealand (CSSANZ) where he spent two years subspecialising in the management of Colorectal cancer, Inflammatory bowel disease, Diverticular disease, anal fistula, anorectal physiology, 3D endoanal ultrasound, and sacral neuromodulation for faecal incontinence.

He continues to have an active role in academia including education, teaching, and quality assurance, with his current role as:

• Colorectal Research Supervisor, Monash University
• Supervisor of SET General Surgery Registrar, Monash Health
• Member of Academy of Surgical Educators, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

Dr Suhardja has co-authored an internationally collaborative textbook on robotic surgery as well as numerous reviews for academic publications.
