About Dr Niruben Rajasagaram
Dr Niruben Rajasagaram is a consultant bariatric, oesophagogastric, and general surgeon based at the Victorian Specialist Surgery and Weight Loss Centre, where he is the director. He is highly skilled and has expertise in laparoscopic surgery, weight loss surgery, and advanced endoscopy.
He consults mainly from Knox Private Hospital, with other consultation rooms in Frankston and Berwick.
Dr Rajasagaram takes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, and he works alongside handpicked bariatric doctors, dieticians, oncologists, and psychologists.
He undertook his medical studies at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He then trained in general surgery and has 14 years of experience in this field. In 2004, he gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MRCS) and became a consultant general surgeon. In 2011, he earned his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). Following this, he undertook 4 years of fellowship training in bariatric, upper gastrointestinal, and advanced biliary surgery at a number of Melbourne hospitals.
He has also trained with the Australian New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA) in gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Rajasagaram is involved in medical education and has previously lectured at a number of medical schools. He has also been a clinical examiner for FRACS. He is respected in his field and has been an invited speaker at the upper gastrointestinal section of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress. Additionally, he is a reviewer for the Obesity Surgery Journal.

6 weeks ago I had the gastric sleeve surgery done by Dr Niruven Rajasagaram. I just had my 6 week post surgery follow up appointment and I couldn’t be happier with everything. I am feeling great for the first time in a long time! Dr Niruben and his team are amazing!! Couldn’t reccomend him enough. If you are thinking about it, just do it :)
From before surgery to after surgery my experience has been nothing but amazing
The whole medical team were really wonderful and so supportive throughout the whole experience and Dr Niruben is so approachable and friendly. The dietician has been amazing too, very helpful and really supportive with all my hundreds of questions both before and after the op. The hospital was busy, but the staff were great.

Had a cholecystectomy early last week. Another surgeon was initially scheduled, but as upper gastrointestinal is Dr Niruben’s specialty, he was recommended to take the op. From first contact Dr Niruben was professional and personable. Op went well and recovery is progressing well. Follow up appt scheduled for Jan with Dr Niruben. Can highly recommend.
