Dr Shashank Desai

Dr Shashank Desai is a highly qualified and compassionate General Surgeon who is dedicated to providing patient-centred care. With extensive training across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and India, he offers a comprehensive range of surgical services. Dr Desai is particularly passionate about making high-quality surgical care accessible to the community, offering various minor surgical procedures that can be safely performed under local anaesthesia. His clinical approach is characterised by a commitment to the highest standards of asepsis and meticulous surgical techniques, ensuring optimal outcomes and reassurance for his patients.

In addition to general surgical procedures, Dr Desai has a strong clinical interest in oncoplastic breast surgery, which integrates cancer removal with advanced reconstructive techniques to achieve both oncological and cosmetic success. His expertise also encompasses laparoscopic surgery, endocrine surgery, and colorectal surgery. He is highly skilled in performing diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopies, including gastroscopies, colonoscopies, and complex polypectomies for cancer prevention. Dr Desai also provides essential community-based surgical treatments, such as skin cancer excisions, mole removals, vasectomies, ingrown toenail surgeries, and the repair of ear-lobe piercings.

Dr Desai completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Bombay in 1984, followed by a Master of Surgery in General Surgery. He went on to obtain Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1991. Furthering his credentials, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002. Dr Desai is an active member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand. He also contributes to the advancement of the medical field as a Senior Lecturer, teaching medical students and surgical trainees and contributing to clinical research.
