Dr Rowan Porter

Dr Rowan Porter is a highly regarded Ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care with a focus on advanced surgical and medical treatments. He has a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases, including macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr Porter is also an experienced Cataract Surgeon who performs both cataract and eyelid procedures, and he is dedicated to delivering patient-centred care to ensure that individuals receive tailored treatment plans to protect and restore their vision.

Dr Porter completed his specialist ophthalmic training in Australia before pursuing advanced international training. He undertook a prestigious retinal fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he focused on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and inherited retinal diseases. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and has held fellowships in both medical retina and Indigenous health, the latter supported by the Dame Ida Mann scholarship in Alice Springs. Additionally, Dr Porter is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Porter is deeply committed to improving eye health outcomes in underserved communities. He has served as a Clinical Advisor and designer for the Indigenous Diabetes Eyes and Screening (IDEAS) Van project, a mobile clinic providing vital ophthalmic services to regional and remote areas. His leadership in the profession is further demonstrated by his past roles as a Council Member for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and as the Chair of its Queensland Branch, where he has advocated for enhanced eye care standards and accessibility.
