Dr Peter Aquilina

Dr Peter Aquilina is a highly accomplished and dedicated Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who provides comprehensive care for conditions affecting the mouth, face, and jaws. With a dual qualification in both medicine and dentistry, he brings a unique depth of knowledge and clinical expertise to his practice. Dr Aquilina is committed to delivering patient-centred care, ensuring that individuals feel fully informed, comfortable, and supported throughout their treatment journey. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of surgical interventions, from routine minor oral procedures to complex reconstructive surgeries.

Dr Aquilina completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney, graduating with Honours in both his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1992 and his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1999. He subsequently undertook basic surgical training followed by four years of Advanced Surgical Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, culminating in a Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2004. Furthering his academic and clinical pursuits, he obtained a Master of Surgery in Head and Neck Surgery from the University of Sydney in 2007 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of New South Wales in 2008, focusing on the biomechanics of facial fractures. He also completed subspecialty training in the United Kingdom, focusing on head and neck cancer and facial trauma. Dr Aquilina is an active member of the Australian Medical Association New South Wales and AOCMF.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Aquilina is deeply involved in research, education, and professional leadership. He has served as an Editor for the Journal of Craniomaxillofacial Trauma and has held significant roles in training the next generation of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, including serving as the Director of Clinical Training for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in New South Wales. He regularly lectures internationally and provides training to Maxillofacial Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeons, and Ophthalmological Surgeons. His clinical interests are diverse, with a particular focus on corrective jaw surgery, dental implants, wisdom teeth management, and the treatment of facial trauma and oral pathology.
