Dr Paul Beaumont

Dr Paul Beaumont AM is a highly distinguished Australian Ophthalmologist and Medical Retinal Specialist who has dedicated his career to the preservation of vision. He was the first Australian Ophthalmologist to specialise full-time in medical retinal disease, establishing himself as a leading authority in the field. Dr Beaumont focuses on the diagnosis and management of complex retinal conditions, providing compassionate, patient-centred care. His clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of retinal disorders, with a particular emphasis on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusion.

Dr Beaumont obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of New South Wales, graduating as a foundation year student in 1966. He completed his specialist training under the guidance of the renowned Professor Fred Hollows. Dr Beaumont is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. Throughout his career, he has held several prestigious leadership roles, including serving as the Chairman of the New South Wales branch of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and as the Chairman of the Committee of Chairmen of all the Medical Colleges. He is also a member of the Australian Medical Association.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Beaumont is a pioneer in clinical research and patient advocacy. He is the founding Director and former Chairman of the Macular Disease Foundation Australia, an organisation established to support patients living with macular diseases and raise public awareness. His commitment to advancing the field of Ophthalmology is further demonstrated by his role as the Chairman of the Eye and Vision Research Institute and his contributions to the editorial boards of prominent medical journals, including Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology. Dr Beaumont has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and regularly shares his expertise as an invited speaker at international conferences, training Doctors worldwide in advanced retinal care.
