They hold the position of Director of Neurosurgical Training at John Hunter Hospital and serve as the Director of the AO Spine Centre at the same institution. Dr Hansen is the Vice-President and a Director of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, a board member of the SET Board for Neurosurgery for the Royal College of Surgeons, and Chairman and Fellowship Coordinator for AO Spine Australia and New Zealand. They are also a sought-after speaker and educator, regularly delivering presentations and training to fellow surgeons both domestically and internationally.

Dr Hansen's dedication to research is evident through their Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine from the University of Sydney and numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.
