Mr Michael O'Keefe

Mr Michael O'Keefe is a highly skilled and dedicated Cardiothoracic Surgeon who provides comprehensive care for patients requiring specialised heart and lung interventions. His clinical practice encompasses a wide range of cardiothoracic procedures, with a particular focus on advanced valve repair and complex aortic root surgeries. Mr O'Keefe completed his medical education at the University of Tasmania, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours, alongside a Bachelor of Medical Science. He then undertook extensive postgraduate training, completing his Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship across several major tertiary hospitals in Victoria and New South Wales. To further refine his expertise, he completed a prestigious post-fellowship training programme in advanced valve repair and aortic root surgery at a leading international hospital in Brussels. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013. He is also an active member of professional bodies, including the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.

His areas of expertise include minimally invasive cardiac surgery, mitral and aortic valve repairs, and complex aortic root reconstructions, such as the David procedure and the Ross procedure. He is also highly proficient in the insertion of rapid-deployment sutureless aortic valves.
