Dr Michael Hogden

Dr Michael Hogden is a highly qualified Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon who specialises in the medical and surgical management of disorders affecting the vitreous, retina, and macula. With a patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to preserving and enhancing his patients' vision through advanced diagnostic techniques and tailored treatment plans. Dr Hogden holds public Consultant appointments as a Vitreoretinal Surgeon and plays an active role in training the next generation of Ophthalmologists, combining clinical excellence with a reassuring and professional manner.

Dr Hogden commenced his medical journey in Sydney, graduating with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with First Class Honours from the University of New South Wales in 2004. He then completed his specialist ophthalmic surgical training in Queensland, which included a year as a Senior Registrar at a major tertiary hospital. To further refine his expertise, he undertook prestigious subspeciality fellowship training in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery at leading eye hospitals in the United Kingdom. He was also awarded a prestigious overseas scholarship to pursue advanced international retinal training at renowned ophthalmic institutions in the United States. Dr Hogden is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

In his clinical practice, Dr Hogden focuses on complex surgical and medical interventions for a wide range of retinal and macular conditions. His areas of interest include vitreoretinal and macular surgery, complex cataract surgery requiring specialised vitreoretinal support, and the management of diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration. He also maintains a keen interest in inherited retinal diseases and the latest therapeutic advancements in this field. Alongside his clinical duties, Dr Hogden is actively involved in ophthalmic research and academic teaching, ensuring his patients benefit from the most current, evidence-based care.
