Dr Michael Coombes

Dr Michael Coombes is a highly regarded Consultant Cardiologist based in Hobart, Tasmania. He is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred care in general adult cardiology. Known for his compassionate approach and reassuring bedside manner, Dr Coombes focuses on putting his patients at ease while addressing complex cardiovascular concerns. Dr Coombes completed his medical degree, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS), at the University of Sydney. He initially trained as a General Physician at major teaching hospitals in Sydney before pursuing specialist training in Cardiology. This advanced training was completed at leading medical institutions in Hobart and Adelaide. To further enhance his clinical expertise, Dr Coombes undertook advanced training in echocardiography and electrophysiology, and subsequently completed a specialised course in CT coronary angiography in 2016. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).

In his clinical practice, Dr Coombes offers a wide range of diagnostic testing and consultations. His areas of expertise include the management of acute chest pain, dizziness, breathlessness, and hypertension. He is highly skilled in performing and interpreting diagnostic procedures such as diagnostic coronary echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, exercise stress echocardiography, Holter monitoring, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Additionally, he provides expert management for patients requiring pacemaker care and is committed to collaborating closely with General Practitioners to support acute patient care.
