Dr Melanie Stuttgen

Dr Melanie Stuttgen is a dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner who provides comprehensive healthcare to patients of all ages. Born and raised in Cairns, she returned to her hometown to serve the local community as a Family Doctor. Dr Stuttgen is deeply passionate about family medicine, valuing the unique opportunity to care for individuals as well as their extended families. Her practice philosophy centres on patient education and empowerment, aiming to partner with patients to optimise their long-term health and well-being rather than simply treating illness.

Before embarking on her medical career, Dr Stuttgen worked as a Scientist. She completed an honours year researching pesticide resistance and subsequently engaged in medical research at a prominent institute in Queensland. This research background inspired her to pursue clinical medicine, leading her to study at The University of Queensland in Brisbane, where she obtained her medical degree. Dr Stuttgen completed her final years of hospital rotations in North Queensland and later relocated to Tasmania to complete her specialist General Practice training. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

With a broad range of clinical expertise, Dr Stuttgen provides a full spectrum of primary care services. She has a particular fondness for paediatric care and infant health, alongside extensive experience in women's health, men's health, and chronic disease management. Her clinical skills also encompass minor surgical procedures, skin checks, and wound care. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Stuttgen has contributed to the wider healthcare system as a Clinical Editor for regional health pathway initiatives, helping to streamline patient referral processes and improve collaborative care between community and hospital-based healthcare teams.
