Prof. Mayank Bhandari

Prof. Mayank Bhandari is a highly accomplished Consultant Hepatobiliary and General Surgeon who provides comprehensive surgical care in Murdoch, Western Australia. He specialises in robotic and laparoscopic procedures, hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) surgery, and renal transplant surgery. With a patient-centred approach, Prof. Bhandari focuses on delivering coordinated, high-quality healthcare within a multidisciplinary environment. His clinical practice encompasses the management of both benign and malignant conditions of the liver, gallbladder, biliary system, and pancreas, alongside a wide range of general surgical procedures.

In his clinical practice, Prof. Bhandari treats complex conditions such as liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic cancers, pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, and gallstone disease. He is highly skilled in performing minimally invasive surgeries, including laparoscopic cholecystectomies, laparoscopic and open hepatobiliary resections, and advanced robotic-assisted procedures. Additionally, he performs abdominal and hiatus hernia repairs, anti-reflux surgeries, and provides surgical services for renal dialysis access, such as the insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters, and renal transplant work-ups.

Prof. Bhandari completed his initial medical training, earning his Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jiwaji University, India, in 1996, followed by a Master of Surgery (MS). He completed a Fellowship in Surgical Gastroenterology in Mumbai before relocating to Australia, where he earned a PhD in pancreatology from Flinders University in 2008. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2011. To further refine his expertise, he undertook the prestigious Paul McMaster Fellowship for advanced training in liver and pancreatic surgery in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Dedicated to advancing his field, he serves as an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University's Medical School, where he actively publishes research and educates future medical professionals.
