Dr Matthew Worthley

Dr Matthew Worthley is a highly accomplished Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist who provides comprehensive cardiac care. He has a strong clinical focus on managing complex cardiovascular conditions, with a particular interest in diabetic vascular disease and interventional cardiology. Dr Worthley is dedicated to delivering patient-centred care, utilising advanced diagnostic techniques and innovative treatments to optimise heart health and improve patient outcomes.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Worthley holds significant leadership and academic positions. He serves as the Director of Cardiology at a major tertiary hospital and is an Associate Professor at a leading university. As a Research Fellow at a prominent health and medical research institute, he is actively involved in pioneering research, particularly in the areas of coronary blood flow, coronary vascular imaging, and the cardiovascular impacts of renal disease. He also contributes to the broader medical community through his roles on the board of a national cardiac society and as a Convenor for specialist training committees.

Dr Worthley completed his undergraduate medical training, obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1994. He undertook his internal medicine and cardiology training at a major metropolitan hospital, achieving status as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2000. Committed to advancing medical knowledge, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in diabetic cardiovascular disease, which was awarded in 2005. Dr Worthley is also a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ) and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).
