Dr. Martin Weltman

Dr. Martin Weltman is a highly accomplished Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing a wide range of digestive and liver conditions. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, he focuses on delivering precise diagnoses and tailored management plans. His clinical expertise spans general gastroenterology, with particular focus areas including inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and reflux oesophagitis. He is also deeply committed to preventative health, regularly performing colorectal cancer screenings to support long-term patient wellness.

In addition to general digestive health, Dr. Weltman possesses specialised expertise in hepatology, managing complex liver disorders such as fatty liver disease, iron deficiency anaemia, and portal hypertension. He is highly skilled in performing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and capsule endoscopy. Dr. Weltman obtained his primary medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1983. He then undertook extensive specialist training in both South Africa and Australia, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1992. Furthering his academic pursuits, he earned a PhD from the University of Sydney in 1998 for his pioneering research into fatty liver disease. He is also a Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine. Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Weltman serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine, contributing significantly to medical education and research as an author of numerous publications and a textbook in his field.
