Dr Mathew Keegan

Dr. Mathew Keegan is a highly skilled Gastroenterologist, Advanced Interventional Endoscopist, and Pancreaticobiliary Specialist. He is dedicated to providing compassionate and high-quality care, and strives for the best outcomes for his patients. Dr. Keegan is a visiting medical officer at North Shore Private Hospital and Northern Beaches Hospital. He provides high quality screening and advanced endoscopic and minimally invasive therapeutic procedures across these sites, as well as local day surgeries (Pittwater Day Surgery and Dee Why Endoscopy).

With expertise in advanced diagnostic and screening gastroscopy and colonoscopy, Dr. Keegan also excels in advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures and biliary and small bowel care/procedures. He advocates for minimally invasive advanced techniques to minimise disruption to patients' normal lives, particularly supporting screening programs for bowel or colorectal cancer.

Dr. Keegan completed his training in Sydney Royal Prince Alfred and St George Hospitals, followed by subspecialty training in pancreaticobiliary medicine, inflammatory bowel disease, and minimally invasive endoscopic management of digestive tract, pancreatic, and biliary conditions at esteemed institutions such as St James University Hospital in the United Kingdom, Hôpital Jean Mermoz in France, and more recently the Erasmus Hopsital in Belgium.

His special interests include advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, such as screening for colon cancer and Barrett's esophagus, specialised procedures for non-surgical, outpatient management of early gut cancers, and advanced precancerous growths, and management of pancreatic, biliary, and small bowel disorders using EUS, ERCP, and balloon enteroscopy.

Dr. Keegan's research has focused on improving the diagnostic performance and patient outcomes of existing endoscopic techniques. He has presented his findings in Australia, the USA, and Europe and has been published in international scientific journals and medical texts.
