Dr Mark Gately

Dr Mark Gately is a specialist General, Bariatric, and Upper GI Surgeon and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) specialising in weight loss management, upper gastrointestinal conditions, and laparoscopic surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci) from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) before completing his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Sydney. He is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA Reg. No. MED0001197321).

Following his general surgery fellowship training, Dr Gately spent two years in London completing an international subspecialty fellowship in laparoscopic bariatric and benign upper gastrointestinal surgery at Chelsea & Westminster NHS Hospital Trust, a recognised UK centre of excellence, where he also served as a consultant surgeon and an assessor for the Imperial College School of Medicine. His clinical practice encompasses primary and revisional bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, gastric banding, and intragastric balloon placement, as well as the surgical management of anti-reflux conditions.

Passionate about holistic obesity management and clinical education, Dr Gately works closely with multidisciplinary teams.   He also offers general surgical procedures including gallbladder surgery, hernia repairs, and diagnostic endoscopy. He has previously served as a surgical tutor for the University of Newcastle and holds international professional memberships with the Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand (ANZMOSS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He practices at Sea Change Weight Loss Clinic, Lingard Private Hospital.
