He completed his specialist ophthalmology training in Melbourne before pursuing prestigious international fellowships. These included a fellowship in retina and vitreous surgery in the United States, followed by a further fellowship in vitreo-retinal and macular surgery in New York. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).
In his clinical practice, Dr Donaldson focuses on the diagnosis and surgical management of a wide range of vitreoretinal conditions. His areas of expertise include the treatment of retinal detachments, retinal tears, macular holes, vitreous haemorrhages, and wet macular degeneration.
