Dr Mark Donaldson

Dr Mark Donaldson is a highly accomplished and dedicated Ophthalmologist who specialises in vitreoretinal surgery, as well as diseases and disorders of the retina, vitreous, and macula. With a patient-centred approach, he is committed to delivering exceptional care to individuals experiencing complex eye conditions. Dr Donaldson combines advanced clinical expertise with a reassuring manner, ensuring that his patients feel fully supported throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Donaldson graduated from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours in Medicine and Surgery in 1996. He demonstrated academic excellence early in his career, receiving both the Cedric Cohen Medal and the John Parr Prize for achieving the highest score in Australia and New Zealand in the entrance examination for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He completed his specialist ophthalmology training in Melbourne before pursuing prestigious international fellowships. These included a fellowship in retina and vitreous surgery in the United States, followed by a further fellowship in vitreo-retinal and macular surgery in New York. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).

In his clinical practice, Dr Donaldson focuses on the diagnosis and surgical management of a wide range of vitreoretinal conditions. His areas of expertise include the treatment of retinal detachments, retinal tears, macular holes, vitreous haemorrhages, and wet macular degeneration. In addition to his private clinical work, he is actively involved in the education of the next generation of medical professionals, serving as a Senior Lecturer and teaching medical students and ophthalmology registrars.
