Dr Lisa Simmons

Dr Lisa Simmons is a highly respected Consultant Cardiologist who provides comprehensive general cardiology care. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, she specialises in the diagnosis and management of complex cardiovascular conditions. Her primary areas of clinical expertise include valvular heart disease, structural heart disease, and the management of cardiovascular health during pregnancy. Dr Simmons is dedicated to delivering precise assessments and tailored management plans to optimise the cardiac health of her patients.

As a Cardiologist specialising in advanced cardiac imaging, Dr Simmons has extensive expertise in echocardiography, stress echocardiography, and exercise echocardiography for ischaemia and valve disease. She plays a pivotal role in structural heart programmes, providing critical imaging guidance during advanced, minimally invasive procedures such as mitral and tricuspid clipping, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and left atrial appendage closure. Additionally, she provides specialised cardiac assessments for patients undergoing oncology treatments, ensuring their cardiovascular safety throughout their medical journeys.

Dr Simmons completed her medical degree at the University of Cape Town, graduating with the class medal in 1990. She went on to complete her specialist training in cardiology in Melbourne in 1997, and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) investigating cardiovascular adaptation to pregnancy from the University of Sydney in 2000. She also holds a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) in echocardiography and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in echocardiography in Leuven, Belgium. Dr Simmons is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor, remaining actively involved in teaching medical students and training future Cardiologists.
