Dr Komal Kumar

Dr Komal Kumar is a dedicated and compassionate Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrician based in Sydney, Australia. She specialises in supporting children and adolescents who experience learning difficulties, Autism, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). With a strong focus on neurodevelopmental and behavioural health, Dr Kumar is committed to providing comprehensive, family-centred care. She advocates passionately for a neurodiversity-affirming approach, ensuring that every child's unique strengths and differences are recognised and supported in all aspects of their lives.

Throughout her career, Dr Kumar has gained extensive experience in diagnosing complex neurodevelopmental disorders and managing associated behavioural difficulties. She is highly proficient in utilising specialised assessment tools, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and the Griffiths Scales of Child Development. Her clinical training also includes a fellowship alongside child and adolescent psychiatrists, which fostered her special interest in managing mood and anxiety disorders in young people. She has worked as a Staff Specialist in developmental disability assessment services and has contributed to diverse clinical settings, including Aboriginal and refugee health.

Dr Kumar completed her Bachelor of Science before earning her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Queensland Medical School, qualifying in 2011. She completed her specialist paediatric training at major paediatric hospitals in Perth and Sydney, subsequently subspecialising in developmental paediatrics across various community health departments in New South Wales. Dr Kumar holds a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), specialising in Child and Community Health.
