Dr Kelvin Choo

Dr Kelvin Choo is a highly regarded Consultant Paediatric Surgeon who provides comprehensive surgical care for infants, children, and young adults. Based in Queensland, he specialises in a broad range of paediatric surgical conditions, ensuring that young patients receive the highest standard of care. Dr Choo is dedicated to delivering reassuring, family-centred treatment, utilising advanced techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients.

With extensive expertise in minimal access techniques, Dr Choo frequently performs laparoscopic and thoracoscopic (keyhole) surgeries to minimise recovery times and discomfort for children. His clinical interests encompass neonatal surgery, paediatric oncology, burns, and genito-urinary conditions. He has a particular focus on complex hepato-biliary conditions, such as biliary atresia and choledochal cysts, as well as upper gastro-intestinal disorders, including gastro-oesophageal reflux and oesophageal conditions. Additionally, he manages thoracic conditions, including chest wall deformities and congenital or acquired lung lesions.

Dr Choo graduated in Medicine from the University of Sydney before undertaking extensive paediatric surgical training across Brisbane, Melbourne, and the United Kingdom. He qualified as a specialist Paediatric Surgeon in 2001 and subsequently gained further international experience as a Fellow and Consultant in leading paediatric hospitals in the United Kingdom. Dr Choo is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and serves as the Queensland Representative on the Board of Paediatric Surgery. He is also an active member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Paediatric Surgeons, the Paediatric Endosurgery Group, and the Australian and New Zealand Burns Association.
