Dr Jennifer Wheatley

Dr. Jennifer Wheatley is a dedicated Paediatric Surgeon who understands the concerns and stress that can arise when a child requires surgery. She prioritises open communication, accessibility, and compassionate care to provide the best possible experience for both patients and their families.

Dr. Wheatley primarily practises in Bulleen, with an additional location in Bundoora. She accepts referrals from various sources, including General Practitioners, Paediatricians, surgical colleagues, and emergency services across Melbourne, particularly Northern Health, Austin Health, and Eastern Health. In emergency situations, she is readily available to provide urgent consultations.

Dr. Wheatley offers a comprehensive range of paediatric surgical services, including procedures such as penile surgery (circumcision, hypospadias correctional surgery, and treatment of penile conditions), inguinal and scrotal surgery (for issues like inguinal hernia, hydrocele, and undescended testis surgery), umbilical surgery, tongue tie procedures, head and neck surgery, as well as evaluations of lumps, bumps, and skin lesions. She also welcomes patients with acute and chronic abdominal pain, constipation, bowel dysfunction, urinary tract issues, and more. Her close collaboration with other medical professionals allows for straightforward referrals to general paediatricians, paediatric medical colleagues, and allied health practitioners.

Her training took place in Sydney, where she obtained fellowships in adult general surgery and paediatric surgery. She also gained valuable experience in paediatric cancer surgery during her time in New York. In Melbourne, she played a role in the liver transplant program and contributed to the establishment of the paediatric program. Dr. Wheatley holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics at Melbourne University, where she mentors medical students based at Northern Health. She particularly enjoys educating junior doctors and aspiring surgical and paediatric trainees within the public health sector. 

Dr. Wheatley performs her public surgical sessions at Northern Health and Box Hill hospitals, while her private surgical sessions are conducted at Northpark Private, Mitcham Private, and St Vincent's Hospital in East Melbourne.
