Dr Katie Chen

Dr Katie Chen is a highly qualified Ophthalmologist who specialises as a Cataract and Oculoplastics Surgeon. She provides comprehensive care in general adult and paediatric ophthalmology, with a particular focus on the diagnosis and surgical management of eyelid conditions. Reassuring and dedicated, Dr Chen is committed to delivering personalised, evidence-based treatment to help her patients achieve optimal visual outcomes and restore their quality of life.

Dr Chen completed her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Queensland, qualifying in 2006. She undertook her specialist training in Ophthalmology across major tertiary hospitals in Queensland. To further her expertise, she completed a paediatric ophthalmology fellowship in Brisbane, followed by an advanced fellowship in oculoplastic surgery in Cambridge, United Kingdom. Additionally, she expanded her clinical horizons as a Fred Hollows Foundation fellow, providing essential eye care services in Central Australia and Fiji.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Chen is actively involved in academic and professional leadership. She serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine, where she is dedicated to teaching and supervising medical students, junior doctors, and training specialists. Dr Chen is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, having obtained her fellowship in 2015, and actively contributes to the profession as a member of the RANZCO Women in Ophthalmology committee.
