Dr Katharine Wallis

Dr Katharine Wallis is a highly accomplished and dedicated General Practitioner who provides comprehensive primary care. Alongside her clinical work, she holds a prominent academic position as the Mayne Professor of General Practice and Head of the GP Clinical Unit at the University of Queensland. Dr Wallis is deeply committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, with a strong focus on patient safety and translating medical evidence into everyday clinical practice.

Dr Wallis obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, along with a Bachelor of Medical Science, from the University of Otago in 1990. She subsequently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics in 1993, a Master of Bioethics and Health Law in 2007, and a Doctor of Philosophy in General Practice and Rural Health in 2013, all through the University of Otago. She is a Fellow of both the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.

In her clinical practice, Dr Wallis offers a broad range of general practice services, with particular interests in family medicine, planned parenting, and contraception. Her extensive research background heavily informs her clinical approach, particularly her focus on safer prescribing and reducing medication-related risks for vulnerable patients.
