Dr Kate Ahmad

Dr Kate Ahmad is a highly regarded Consultant Neurologist who specialises in the diagnosis and management of complex neurological conditions. With a compassionate and patient-centred approach, she provides comprehensive care for individuals experiencing a wide range of brain and nervous system disorders. Dr Ahmad has a particular clinical focus on neuro-ophthalmology and neurogenetics, bringing a high level of expertise to patients facing intricate conditions that intersect the fields of Neurology and Ophthalmology.

Dr Ahmad completed her medical training at the University of Tasmania, graduating with honours in 2003 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci). Following her graduation, she undertook extensive specialist training in Neurology across both Australia and the United Kingdom. She further advanced her expertise by completing a dedicated fellowship year in neurogenetics and neuromuscular disease. Dr Ahmad is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and continues to contribute to the medical field as a doctoral candidate, researching inherited diseases of the eye.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Ahmad is deeply committed to medical education, research, and professional advocacy. She actively contributes to the training of future medical professionals, serving as a Clinical Supervisor and Director of Physician Training. Her research on inherited optic neuropathies, functional neurological disorders, and cognitive neurology has been widely published in peer-reviewed medical journals and book chapters. Dr Ahmad is also a passionate advocate for gender equity within the healthcare sector, frequently presenting at scientific meetings and participating in national initiatives to support women in medicine.
