Dr Joel Tuckett

Dr Joel Tuckett is a highly qualified and contemporarily trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who is dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centred care. He prioritises a compassionate and reassuring approach, ensuring that each patient experiences a comfortable and well-supported journey from their initial consultation through to post-operative recovery and discharge. With a diverse clinical background that spans nursing, medicine, and dentistry, Dr Tuckett brings a unique depth of understanding and empathy to his surgical practice, tailoring his treatments to meet the individual needs of both adult and paediatric patients.

Dr Tuckett began his healthcare career by completing a Bachelor of Nursing at the Queensland University of Technology in 2003, subsequently working as a Registered Nurse in a busy emergency department. He then pursued medical training, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Queensland in 2010, followed by residency training and a tenure as an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Registrar in Ireland, where he also lectured at University College Cork. Upon returning to Australia, he completed a Bachelor of Dental Science with First Class Honours at the University of Queensland in 2013. Dr Tuckett undertook his specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery across several major tertiary and paediatric hospitals in Queensland, during which he was awarded the national prize for the highest score in the primary examination in 2017. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FRACDS (OMS)) and serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland, where he educates future medical and dental professionals.

In his clinical practice, Dr Tuckett specialises in a comprehensive range of oral and maxillofacial procedures. His areas of expertise include dentoalveolar surgery, the extraction of wisdom teeth, dental implants, bone grafting, and corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery). He is also highly skilled in managing complex facial trauma, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and the treatment of oral cysts and tumours. As an internationally published author, Dr Tuckett has contributed to medical literature in the fields of facial trauma, antibiotic stewardship, salivary gland surgery, and head and neck oncology, ensuring his clinical methods remain at the forefront of modern surgical evidence.
