Dr Jane Munro

Professor Jane Munro is a highly respected Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Rheumatologist who is dedicated to providing compassionate, family-centred care for children and adolescents. She has a broad range of clinical interests encompassing both inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, as well as non-inflammatory and painful musculoskeletal conditions. Dr Munro specialises in the diagnosis and management of juvenile arthritis, connective tissue diseases (such as systemic lupus erythematosus and dermatomyositis), and vasculitis. She also provides expert care for non-inflammatory musculoskeletal issues, including mechanical joint pain, growth-related problems, sports injuries, hypermobility, chronic fatigue, and complex regional pain syndrome.

Dr Munro completed her medical degree with honours at Monash University. She then undertook her specialist training as a Paediatrician and completed advanced training in paediatric rheumatology and pain medicine at leading paediatric hospitals and medical centres. Committed to continuous learning and healthcare improvement, she also holds a Master of Public Health and a Master of Health Service Management. Dr Munro is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Her dedication to advancing paediatric care was further recognised when she was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to study multidisciplinary paediatric pain management models at leading international children's hospitals, followed by a National Institute of Clinical Studies Fellowship focused on improving clinical care.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Munro is a Professor at the University of Melbourne and a Senior Research Fellow at a prominent children's research institute, where she leads research into childhood rheumatic diseases and paediatric pain management. She has held significant leadership roles, including serving as the National Chair of the Australian Paediatric Rheumatology Group and as Co-Chair of the Global Taskforce for Paediatric Musculoskeletal Health. As a passionate advocate for patient-centred care and healthcare worker well-being, she co-founded the Pandemic Kindness Movement and has served as a Senior Medical Adviser. Dr Munro combines her extensive academic expertise with a reassuring, supportive approach to ensure the best possible outcomes for her young patients and their families.
