Mr Andrew Finlayson

Mr Andrew Finlayson is a highly qualified Consultant General Surgeon and Colorectal Surgeon based in Nedlands, Western Australia. He specialises in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery of the colon and rectum, with a particular focus on complex pelvic cancer surgery. Dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred care, Mr Finlayson collaborates closely with multidisciplinary cancer teams to ensure optimal treatment pathways for patients facing complex diagnoses. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of colorectal and general surgical procedures, ensuring that patients receive tailored, reassuring, and high-quality care.

In addition to his expertise in colorectal oncology, Mr Finlayson has a strong clinical interest in the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders (including prolapse repair and faecal incontinence), and benign perianal conditions such as fistulas and haemorrhoids. He also provides a comprehensive general surgical service, performing routine and emergency procedures including laparoscopic hernia repairs and gallbladder surgery. Furthermore, he works in conjunction with Gynaecologists to assist in the complex surgical treatment of deep infiltrating endometriosis and advanced gynaecological cancers.

Mr Finlayson obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Western Australia in 2002. He completed his internship and residency training locally before undertaking advanced training in General Surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, which he completed at various metropolitan and regional hospitals. He was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2012. Following this, Mr Finlayson completed a prestigious three-year post-fellowship training programme in colorectal surgery accredited by the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). This extensive training took place across major tertiary referral centres in Western Australia, Victoria, and New Zealand, where he refined his skills in advanced laparoscopic techniques, pelvic floor investigations, and complex pelvic surgery. He is an active member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).
