Dr Abirami Thevakumar

Dr Abirami Thevakumar is a highly dedicated Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who is committed to providing compassionate, individualised care to women at all stages of life. She believes in empowering her patients to make informed decisions about their healthcare, establishing a foundation of trust, guidance, and support. With a clinical approach that is both reassuring and professional, Dr Thevakumar ensures that every woman and her family feel safe, heard, and respected throughout their medical journey.

Her clinical practice encompasses a comprehensive range of obstetric and gynaecological services. Dr Thevakumar is highly skilled in managing both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, ensuring optimal outcomes for mothers and their babies. She has a particular interest in pre-pregnancy counselling, early pregnancy issues, and supporting couples who have experienced previous birth trauma by providing thorough debriefing. In her gynaecological practice, she specialises in treating heavy menstrual or abnormal uterine bleeding, menopause management, vulvovaginal disorders, and cervical screening abnormalities. She has also been instrumental in developing clinical guidelines for maternal-assisted caesarean births to enhance the birthing experience.

Dr Thevakumar completed her medical degree, obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. She subsequently undertook extensive specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology across several busy and diverse tertiary referral hospitals in the United Kingdom and Australia. She holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in the United Kingdom. Additionally, she serves as an approved Training Supervisor, dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical students and specialist trainees.
