Dr Abe Mathew

Dr Abe Mathew is a highly dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner who serves as a Practice Principal in the Hunter region of New South Wales. With a patient-centred approach to healthcare, he provides comprehensive medical services to individuals and families within the local community. In addition to his primary care role, Dr Mathew serves as a Visiting Medical Officer at a local district hospital, ensuring continuity of care for his patients. He is also deeply committed to the future of medicine, actively participating in the teaching and supervision of the Rural General Practitioner Registrar programme.

Dr Mathew completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at PSG University in India, graduating in 2005, before fulfilling his Australian Medical Council requirements to practise in Australia in 2008. To further his expertise, he obtained a Master of Public Health and a Diploma in Child Health. He holds several distinguished professional fellowships, including Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Rural Generalist (FRACGP-RG), and holds the FARCP designation.

Throughout his career, Dr Mathew has developed diverse clinical interests, with a particular focus on general medicine, paediatric care, and travel medicine. He has also completed advanced qualifications in skin cancer detection and management, allowing him to offer specialised skin checks and treatments. Beyond direct patient care, Dr Mathew holds key leadership roles within the regional healthcare network, serving as the General Practitioner Clinical Lead for SeNT eReferrals and as the Clinical Lead for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). He is also experienced in providing telehealth consultations and supporting veterans through Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) care.
