Dr Yasmine Abdalla

Dr Yasmine Abdalla is an experienced Vision Care Consultant specialising in medical retina and complex retinal conditions, with over two decades of ophthalmology experience. She is the Uveitis Service Lead at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Abdalla has advanced expertise in the management of diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, inflammatory eye diseases, and complex retinal disorders. She provides specialist care including intravitreal injections, retinal and macular laser treatments, immune-modulation therapy, and complex cataract surgery.

Between 2012 and 2014, Dr Abdalla completed specialist clinical and research fellowship training with Professor Andrew Lotery at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, developing further expertise in hereditary eye disorders and complex retinal disease. She later held senior ophthalmology positions across multiple NHS Trusts and achieved her Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology through the General Medical Council.

She has been actively involved in ophthalmology research, contributing to clinical studies and international multicentre trials. Dr Abdalla regularly presents at national and international conferences and has published research in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Abdalla is passionate about medical education and training. During her ophthalmology training, she represented trainees through roles with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the East Midlands Deanery Surgical Training Committee. She currently serves as Royal College Tutor at Royal Derby Hospital, where she supports and supervises the development of ophthalmology registrars.
