Professor Vasha Kaur

Professor Vasha Kaur is a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI) Surgeon with specialist expertise in metabolic health, weight management, and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) abdominal surgery. She graduated with Honours, Distinction, and Class Prizes from the University of Edinburgh Medical School with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB Hons). She subsequently completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) alongside her higher surgical training, being among the first in her national cohort to pass both the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) examinations.

Her clinical practice encompasses advanced laparoscopic procedures, including keyhole gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy), open and laparoscopic hernia repairs, diagnostic gastroscopy, and non-invasive liver disease assessments. As part of a multidisciplinary bariatric care team, Professor Kaur provides comprehensive metabolic health care and bariatric treatment pathways tailored to long-term weight management.

A surgical educator and active clinical researcher, Professor Kaur serves as a postgraduate tutor and contributes to peer-reviewed literature and medicolegal analysis in upper GI and metabolic surgery. She holds active memberships in key professional organisations, including the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS), the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery (AUGIS), the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS / BAMBS), and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).
