Dr Timothy Thiruchelvam

Dr Timothy Thiruchelvam is a highly skilled Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Intensivist who specialises in paediatric cardiac critical care. Dedicated to delivering exemplary care to critically ill infants, children, and young people, he provides expert medical support for complex cardiac, respiratory, and pulmonary conditions. Dr Thiruchelvam works closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams to support young patients through high-risk medical procedures, major cardiothoracic surgery, and severe critical illnesses.

In his clinical practice, Dr Thiruchelvam possesses advanced expertise in cardiac intensive care, paediatric heart failure, and life-sustaining mechanical therapies. He serves as an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Lead, overseeing critical technologies that temporarily support heart and lung function in unstable paediatric patients. His clinical interests also include extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) and advanced life support techniques, ensuring that critically ill children receive prompt, life-saving interventions when needed most.

Dr Thiruchelvam completed his undergraduate medical education, earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) degree. He subsequently attained full membership in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). Alongside his clinical commitments, he is actively involved in medical education and clinical training for healthcare professionals, as well as collaborative research focused on improving clinical outcomes and safety in paediatric intensive care units.
