Mr Sunil Khandavilli

Mr Sunil Khandavilli is a highly experienced Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a broad and complex surgical practice. He graduated in dentistry from Dharwad, India in 1993, before completing a senior residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a three-year master’s degree in the specialty. Following this, he was appointed as a senior lecturer, where he played an active role in teaching and training both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

He later moved to the UK to further his training, working across Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery units in Poole, Shrewsbury and North Wales. During this time, he achieved dual qualification by completing a Doctor of Medicine (MD). He went on to complete his basic surgical training in North Wales, gaining Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, followed by higher surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the West Midlands. He is now a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was appointed as a substantive Consultant at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2018.

Mr Khandavilli has a wide-ranging clinical practice, with particular expertise in facial trauma, dentofacial deformity, temporomandibular joint disorders, skin cancer and general oral surgery. He is the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery lead for multidisciplinary care of facial injuries associated with neurosurgical trauma across the Greater Manchester region, working across both Manchester and Salford.

Alongside his clinical work, he maintains a strong academic and educational focus. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at both national and international conferences. He is actively involved in training the next generation of surgeons, holding roles as a medical school examiner, lead educational supervisor and panel member for dental and medical training recruitment, as well as contributing to dental foundation assessments.
