About Mr Stephen Ball

Mr Stephen Ball is a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon based at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust—one of the largest vascular centres in the country.

He completed a PhD at the University of Manchester, focusing on carotid artery disease and its role in stroke prevention. He remains actively involved in research, contributing to ongoing advancements in vascular medicine.

Mr Ball’s clinical practice covers the full spectrum of vascular care. This includes open and endovascular (stent-based) repair of aortic aneurysms, bypass surgery for peripheral arterial disease, and carotid artery surgery. He also has a particular interest in minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins and has established a community-based NHS service to improve access to these treatments.

Alongside his clinical and research work, he is committed to medical education. He holds a postgraduate certificate in medical education and has undertaken further training in digital healthcare innovation through a course at Imperial College London.

His approach to patient care is highly personalised, focusing on clear communication and tailored treatment plans to achieve the best possible outcomes and patient experience.

My experience at my recent follow up appointment for the surgery on my left leg was excellent. Mr Ball is a brilliant surgeon and he made me feel safe, cared for and informed throughout the surgery. I am thrilled with the result of the surgery and the way my leg now looks and feels!! Mr Ball also gave me a very informative diagnosis about the problem and potential treatment for my right leg. If I require any further vascular surgery I will definitely be returning to see him and would recommend him to everyone.

Steven Ball was very clear in his explanation of my diagnosis and put my mind at rest as to what he thought was wrong. I felt a lot more confident when I left. His manner was polite and very pleasant.
