Miss Shivani Kasbekar

Miss Shivani Kasbekar is a Consultant Ophthalmologist based in Nottingham, specialising in squint (strabismus), eye movement disorders, double vision and paediatric ophthalmology. She also performs cataract surgery across all age groups, from infants to adults.

Miss Kasbekar has completed advanced fellowship and subspecialty training in adult ocular motility, advanced strabismus surgery, paediatric ophthalmology, nystagmus and complex ocular motility disorders. Her expertise in adult eye movement disorders includes revision squint procedures, vertical muscle surgery, adjustable suture and small incision techniques. She also offers non-surgical treatment options, including botulinum toxin injections for squint correction.

Her adult strabismus practice is supported by fellowship training in both paediatric ophthalmology and adult ocular motility. This combination of training is particularly relevant to adults whose squint began in childhood or has returned following previous surgery.

Miss Kasbekar holds a Doctorate in Medicine in Eye and Vision Sciences, achieved through an award from the Medical Research Council and Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Her research has been published in scientific journals including the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Her academic achievements also include research presentation awards and the Roy Mapstone Research Prize.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Miss Kasbekar is involved in training future eye surgeons as a clinical supervisor and serves as a faculty member and instructor for a squint surgery course. She has also undertaken quality improvement initiatives relating to ophthalmic care.
